What is a Halfway House?
A halfway house (3.1 ASAM level of care) is a substance use disorder treatment facility licensed by the PA Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP). It is considered a step-down level of care from inpatient/residential treatment. Referred to as a live-in/work-out environment, residents continue with formal treatment services on a less intense basis, which allows time for employment search and gainful employment. Saving money and preparing oneself for the next step of their life in recovery is a focus of the halfway house model.
